Run really hot water over the lid for about 10 seconds then turn left to open. Most of the time that works for me.

Default Jar opening tool

I have the neatest tool mounted on the underside of my kitchen cabinets. It was there when I bought the house so I don't know where to get one, but it really works great. It's a "V" shaped devices with the "V" lined with heavy rubber. You simply slide the jar into the "V" and twist. I have used it to open everything from gallon pickle jars to those tiny caps on the hot sauce bottles. If I ever leave this place I will probably take it with me.
