I have to agree that Dickey's has outrageous prices...way too expensive!

Thumbs up Top BBQ

Dickey's is OK for a chain restaurant. I agree on the pricey part. You won't find it in Texas Monthly's top 50 BBQ places in Texas. They pretty much avoid the chain outlets. I remember eating at a Dickeys 30 years ago on Central Expressway in Dallas. Was that the original? It was to die for in those days.

BTW, the only BBQ in SA to make the top 50 list is the Smokehouse on the SE side. The Smokehouse, San Antonio - Home Definitely fits the "hole in the wall" criteria.

There's a new place in Boerne, Fritz's BBQ on north Main Sreet/Hwy 87. It's not bad either!

SA sucks in the BBQ department. One of the legendary joints like Black's BBQ in Lockhart or Cooper's in Llano need to do something to fill the void here. We can't eat Tex-Mex all the time.

A really good BBQ place is Coopers but it is all the way in Llano. But if you are ever in that neck of the woods, I would definitely give it a try. If you go at lunchtime the line is out the door. You actually pick your meat off of the pit.
The traditional Holy Trinity of BBQ places includes Coopers/Llano, Louie Mueller's in Taylor and Kreuz' (or Black's. or Smitty's) in Lockhart . If you ever saw the movie Lone star State of Mind, Louie Mueller's is where the girlfriend works.

If your quest is great BBQ and distance is no object, check out the Texas Monthly list. The Top 50: Texas Monthly June 2008

A co worker was bragging to me yesterday about a new BBQ place in New Braunfels. When he said "Coopers" I nearly cried for joy.

Is this the same Coopers that is in Llano????? Please somebody say yes.

Has anyone from CD been to Coopers in NB yet??

We went to Dickey's last night and to update everyone...not so great It was very comparable to Bill Miller. It didn't taste at all like "down home" style BBQ. I got turkey and sausage and two sides and my plate was $10 plus a drink and tax. Wowzers I was thinking the whole time, no place with a drive thru should have plates that cost $10! I am being sarcastic, but at the same time not really. There were plates that cost more than the one I got. My husband got a chopped BBQ sandwich, beans and baked potatoe casserole. Our total bill was $25+ some change. And they have a drive-thru! I just didn't expect it. I really think I could have enjoyed it knowing I had paid less for it

My GF & I went there to eat 1 time. $30.00. That was our first and last trip there for so-so BBQ. I got one word to say about that: Augies.
