Apartment help in Selma/Universal City area (Schertz, Canyon: apartments, lease)

My husband and I are about to move to a different side of town (from I-10 side to Selma/Universal City/Converse area) when our current apartment lease is up. We will eventually buy a house most likely in Selma or Universal City, we've already looked, etc.. but would like to actually live in the area just to make sure specifically what area we would like to buy in, just for 6-9 months. We are not really looking for a full lease and we need at least these criteria met:

1. Accepts small dogs (usually everywhere)
2. Has W/D connections
3. We don't really want to go above $700ish a month but would like the most value for our money since we won't be there very long.

I only ask because it seems like apartments in that area are overall pretty shady from the apartment ratings website and the ones that do well are over $800/month and we really don't want to fork that over right before we buy a house. ANY help and insight would be much appreciated!

About $1,000 monthly will get you a 2-bedroom apartment at Legacy
Oaks (just off Schertz Parkway closest to I-35).

They accept pets, have WD hookups, gated, exercise room, swimming
pool, laundry facility, carport or garages available.

Then there is Sycamore Creek Apartments on Eibel Road by Steele
High School. There you can get 2-bedroom for $729. Not as nice
as Legacy Oaks but that may not bother you if temporary.

Neither of those places is shady.

I looked at Sycamore Creek before and they were nice but didn't have washer/dryer connections.

Not sure what the rent is now... but when we first moved back here, we lived in Sunrise Canyon Apartments in Universal City (near the UC police station, although we never were bothered by sirens). At least at that time they allowed dogs, and we had a washer/dryer in the unit. We paid a bit under $700 (can't remember exact amount). Quiet, safe location... easy access to The Forum as well as to Pat Booker (and, thus, to 35 and 1604).

A workmate lived in both Sunrise Canyon Apts and now in Peppermill, both which are right across from each other, and the UCPD/Fire station, off of Forum Rd or Universal City Blvd. She likes the vibe of Sunrise but once she got her dog, they shooed her away. Her dog is a lab/blue heeler mix and he got the weight of the lab and Sunrise had weight restrictions. She's now in Peppermill, they allow her dogs and she hasn't had any big issues that she's shared with me. I've been once and they're nice but to me, I've lived in so many apts over the years in various states that they all start to look the same. She had her own W/D connections and I think about 740 for a 2 bed/2bath. They look sort of shady but when I was sitting outside with her, I saw some military folk get off and head in, a UCPD officer coming off shift, and a few families with kiddos. I mean, that doesn't really mean anything but she hasn't really said anything major about them i.e. vandalism, thefts. Good luck on the move.
