Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. I tried googling but couldnt find the answer to my specific question.

I remember not too long ago it being reported on the news that license plate trim rings could not obscure the word "Texas" on the plate. I have a decorative trim I would like to use and it doesnt cover the word "Texas" but it does cover the word "Lone Star State" or whatever is at the bottom of the plate.

Is this legal?

It seems like dealer trim rings cover it but I dont want to guess.

The site wasnt much help so I was wondering if you guys knew.

I don't know the answer but considering the amount of worse license plate violations I see out there such as mud covering the plates or not having a front plate, I doubt that in Texas a cop would really care to pull you over for "Texas" portion or any other wording on the plate being obscured as long the ID numbers are visible.

I got pulled over passing through the Panhandle a few years ago. The officer pulled me over because he said my Spurs license plate frame was slightly covering the TEXAS on the plate. He didn't give me a ticket thankfully.

I'm sure police may simply use it as an excuse to pull you over.

Houston cops had a field day pulling cars over about 20 years ago. Certain folks, a lot of them actually, were putting a mostly transparent rainbow across the middle of their plate to make some statement or other. It did not really obscure any plate numbers.

The biggest plate violation I see is a completely unreadable, even destroyed rear plate on any vehicle with a tow ball. Lots of banging the plate into the trailer when hooking up I suppose.

I know for sure you cant cover the word "Texas". I am concerned about the "Lone Star State" at the bottom.

Texas is what they're concerned about - they have to be able to read the STATE name.

Some TX plates don't have the slogan so don't worry about it.
