Houston, Dallas more cool than San Antonio, according to Forbes - San Antonio Business Journal

Houston #1 and Dallas beat us but a certain pretentious city barely made top 20.

Because every list they put out is 100% fact right? Lol. I take these types of lists with a grain of salt.

What's ironic and funny is the pretentious city was never named in the OP.

What is up with the inferiority complex of the author of that article? I don't see how taking a dig at Austin helps us. Does it really make him feel better?

Don't think it's an inferiority complex but I think the author is having a little fun. Lots of Austinites think they're the best thing since sliced bread. I don't dislike Austin either but I would like it a lot more if it wasn't for so many of them having to go on none stop about how great they think it is. I'm sure that's the reason author poked a little fun at them.

I have never come across an Austinite who thinks Austin is the best or better than San Antonio. From what I hear they like San Antonio but rather it is the San Antonions who are constantly bashing Austin. Seems like some of the locals have a chip on their shoulders about Austin. Maybe they are just jealous…

I lived in Austin for 6 years and San Antonio for the last 20 years. I realize that many factors are looked at to determine how "cool" a city is. Probably Austin's traffic and crazy politics are the main reasons it scores lower, but on an actual pure "coolness" scale, I don't see how San Antonio is on the same page as Austin. Austin has a higher standard of living, higher per capita levels of education and income. In what I think most people would consider the ultimate determiner of "cool," Austin's overall entertainment scene completely blows away San Antonio's. It puzzles me to see a band touring put out its list of dates, and how they will often play Austin, a city half the size of San Antonio and completely skip San Antonio, the 7th largest city in the US.

I live in San Antonio and am raising my family here, and am quite happy doing so. At this point in my life, living in a "cool" place is not my main objective in life. But if it was, Austin would be the place, not San Antonio. Sorry if it offends anyone, but that's my opinion having lived in both places.

Sorry, but "cool" isn't always defined by "hip, young kids." There are also varying degrees of "cool." It's all based on one's perspectives.

Back in my 20s, I would have thought Austin to be "cool;" but now that a few years have passed and my priorities have changed, I think San Antonio is the "cool" place to be.

There is a rich and vibrant culture to this city, much of it stacked in history but if you make an effort you can find "coolness" buried in its seams. Clues to it can be found in the SA Current, in which you can find neat, off-the-beaten track places such as King's Court Frankfurters for a delicious and unique place to grab a hot dog. There are also things like First Friday which offer a wide assortment of "cool" activities in our city.

So "cool" isn't defined by all night raves or copious amounts of alcohol, as some may think. Cool are adventurous, interesting things to do whether you're a young single person or an old fart with a family that likes to have some fun on the weekends.

With that in mind, it's not surprising that SA made the "cool" list, it does have a lot to offer if one just makes a little effort to find it.

Cheers! M2
