I don't eat sushi and don't know anything about it. My son in law loves the stuff but there are not too many places to get it where he lives near San Angelo. His birthday is next week and I want to get him a gift card so he can get some sushi while in the area visiting me. My daughter doesn't eat sushi either, and so I was thinking he might get some take away. There is a place near me that has a decent rating on UrbanSpoon, Godai Sushi Bar and since it is convenient I will probably get the gift card there.

My problem is, I have no idea what is enough $ wise. It is not the only gift I am giving him. I have no idea if sushi is something you can buy one day and it's still good the next, or what. Would $25.00 buy a decent amount of sushi?

I can't recommend Godai but considering that it looks like he is the only one eating Sushi, I say that $25 is enough.

Thanks. I have to ask though, when you say you can't recommend Godai, is it because you don't like it, or just haven't been there?

We love Godai!!! It's our favorite in town and has regularly been chosen as critics choice in the annual SA Express News rankings. It's been a couple years since we've been, because we moved a good distance from the area, but I remember most of their rolls being between $10-$15. I think $25 - $30 could get him 2 rolls.

Are the rolls a good size? What would you compare them to size wise. Glad to hear that you like the place! :-)

If not Godai, try Kai's on 410 and Vance Jackson.

The rolls I've had there are bigger than I've had at other sushi restaurants in town.

Sushihana on NW military is also good.

It was because I have not been there but looks like many others have and like it.

We went last Tuesday for the first time and it was good. The spider roll was large and was 9.95 and the California roll was 6.95 and much larger than what is sold in supermarkets. A lunch plate of sushi w/ tuna rolls was 10.95 and came with miso soup and a small salad. The miso ramen soup was not very good to me. We lived in Japan and this really missed the mark. Hope this gives you an idea of prices.

Thanks everyone. I only moved to SA in late June and my daughter and SIL don't know their way around, so I figured someplace easy to find would be best. He'll be able to find this place no problem. :-)
