We are considering moving to Gonzales, Texas. Can someone tell us about schools? We have a daughter that will start Kindergarten in a year. How is the crime? Housing? Is it a good place to raise a family? We are trying to get away from farming and the West Texas wind. Is there much farming in the area? Does the dirt blow? Is there access to the river for swimming and canoeing? We have researched what we can on line, but we would like to hear from someone that lives in the area. Anything would be helpful!

brkmarcy, I don't live there but have frequented it enough to answer a couple of your questions. First, yes there is farming in Gonzales. It is mixed agricultural area with livestock and various crop farming. We have just gone through a relatively severe drought in this area of Texas, and so there was some dust (to be expected) but it's normally not like that. Independence Park has river access. There is also a small State park, Palmetto. I love that place.

Hope that helps a little.

Gonzales Lake has a state park with a boat launch but that's pretty much it, and there is nearby Lake Wood Park east of the state park where there is fishing, canoeing, camping, etc.

I am looking for a home, maybe outside of the city limits. i don't prefer apartments because i like my privacy. I am considering moving in June only because of my fiancee's son, he will be graduating this year.
a home of a 3 bedroom and 2 baths, back and front yard, hope with a fence. and rent should be around 1,000 a month.
if there is anyone is willing to rent a house in gonzales or outside of the city limits, please let me know.
my fiancee works for a drilling company and is gone all the time and i am retired but like staying active with photography and marathon running and to volunteer.we are very quiet and i prefer my privacy, ALOT!
would like to come visit this weekend 2-2 2013
Thank you very much,
