I'm so much a dinosaur that I still like newspapers (even though they are not what they were), real books, real magazines and real book stores.

You can't beat the smell of an old book. I've finally taken to using a tablet because I just can't find the wallspace for another bookshelf.

Back in the day I used to subscribe to both the Express and the Light. I read the Express front to back, and the Light I read "lightly". Then the purchase and merge of the Light into the Express and I dumped it. I subscribed briefly when returning to SA, but just couldn't stomach it. If they had just one Paul Thompson then maybe.... a little integrity would go a long way.

Then you would've loved this place on Commerce St.

especially the basement & the aroma of old paper.

Wow, this one completely escaped my hunting days. When did it close?

I made friends with the lady who managed the book section of the Goodwill on Fredericksburg Rd. back in the 80s. I used to visit on Thursdays and she'd pull out a box of items she thought might interest me. That, combined with all the wonderful stores which used to operate and the yearly Brandeis Book Sales, led to my current overproliferation of books.
