Does anyone know what is being built on the corner of Marbach and South Ellison? Seems a little much for just more housing.

I didn't know either, it was a good question.

It looks like it's going to be one of those smaller Walmarts that just has groceries, which is nice. We can use another grocery store out this way, the HEB is way too crowded all the time.

According to the plat filed with the real estate broker, there are 2 separate parcels. Parcel 2 has been sold which does not include the corner. The plat shows it's going to be multi use. Churchs Chicken shows up as building a store there. Looks to be several other small entities to be built there as well. Just what the area needs, more vacant retail shops.

This is for the parcel to the east of Ellison. The parcel they've been tearing up across from the Shell station is slated to be Marbach Hills Apartments. Coming soon farther out Marbach are townhomes. The corner lot at Ellison and Marbach is still open.

Yes, it will be a Walmart Neighborhood Market. There was a story in the Express-News about it a couple of weeks ago, but I can't find it on their site any more, just the accompanying map:

I also found this:
Marbach Rd. and Marbach Oaks Dr. Near New Walmart Neighborhood Market, San Antonio, TX 78227 - Vacant Land For Sale on Cityfeet.com

I am surprised they don't put a police station out there on Marbach. It's a growing area, and the parts of the inner loop of Marbach are sketchy. I mean there is a fire station, but no police station.

Wasn't the area rough in the late 70's?

The police station is at Culebra and 410, so not really that far from Marbach. I don't think that area has gotten any less sketchy with a police substation being there though.

The area that has really been growing lately is in unincorporated Bexar county, around 90 and 1604.

SAPD only covers marbach to Ellison. After that it's Bexar County which only has one to two deputies covering that area. They need more.

I think is further than that. I've seen SAPD on the Shell on 1604 and Marbach. But yeah it's mostly BCSO around that area.
