Hi, I will be moving soon to SA probably in a month or so and the problem is that I have braces still. I originally planned to stay where I was at, but due to situations beyond my control, I will have to leave sooner than I expected. I have had my braces since november so it has already been 7 months and I have noticed a difference and I like it, so I was wondering, what happens to people when they have to go see another orthodontist? Would he take off my braces or put a permanent retainer so they wouldn't get messed up? Is there anyone that knows of a cheap orthodontist over there in San Antonio? My original orthodontist was going to charge me 4200 and that was after I saw someone that wanted 6000. It was a lot but I do need this and I am afraid that I will have to start all over and lose the money that I put into this, I also paid up until November, is it possible to get my money back? Sorry I have so many questions, is just that I have never done anything like this before.

Orthodontists take transfer cases all the time. Usually they don't have to replace brackets, provided the ones that your current orthodontist applied are reasonably in date and in the reasonably correct position. The financial part can get a little sticky depending on if you paid in full up front with your current orthodontist. I would make an appointment for a consult with an orthodontist in SA to have them evaluate where you are in treatment and the type and placement of your brackets. They could give you a better idea of time left, etc.

The orthodontists I like in San Antonio are:
-Bloyce Britton and Tyler Ferris at Britton & Ferris Orthodontics
-Robert "Tito" Norris of Stone Oak Orthodontics
-Scott Heying of Heying Orthodontics

I think those 4 orthodontists are really great and I would let treat me in a heartbeat.

Hope this helped. Transfer cases can be complex but it happens all the time.

Second for Dr. Britton!!!! He's awesome!!! He has an office in Stone Oak andone in Alamo Heights. I think he might have one in the Leon Valley area, too.

I'm not sure cheap and orthodontics can be used in the same sentence, but I will second Tito Norris. A great guy and meticulous in his work.

If you're pressed for cash then you might try someone not specializing in orthodontics. Clarence Feller handles braces.

Dr. Clarence R. Feller Jr., DDS - San Antonio, Texas

I know both these guys and both are exceptional in their fields.

I've got no idea about getting a refund, but it wouldn't hurt to ask their office manager and see if that would give you some extra cash to get the results you are looking for.

i would not recommend going to a general dentist for orthodontics other than just minor type relapse cases. Just my opinion for whatever its worth.

I am bumping this thread for updated recommendations for Invisalign. If the time frame is shorter, I may go for metal braces. BTW, this would be cash. I am in the Helotes area, but will travel for a good orthodontist. TIA.
