Don't worry about it - it's an online forum, with many personalities.

I WILL say that I have met many people recently who have moved to SA from Austin. They said they missed the "old" Austin (being a lifelong San Antonian, I can't define it more than that), and have settled in the urban areas around downtown.

I would not limit my search to just the Pearl area (I'm assuming you would include Government Hill and Tobin Hill as part of "Pearl") or Southtown. Take a look also at some of the other neighborhoods like Alta Vista, Beacon Hill, Monticello Park (my area), or Mahncke Park. You'll find a lot of other progressive newcomers there as well. Some are more walkable/bikeable than others, but each has its advantages.

Welcome to SA!

times were different back then. living close to broadway, you wont find what youre looking for, but by all means, go nuts.

just beware of the area north of new braunfuls between the military base and terrell hills/burr road. on the side the tea gardens is on, its.. pretty bad.. section 8 n other undesirables.

That's not even remotely true and I doubt you could even prove this claim.

Terrill Hills goes from crap to 4 million bucks real soon. The poster used section 8 which is hard to gauge, but if you want Austin move to Southtown or move to Austin!

I take issue with that! Southtown isn't Austin, isn't trying to be, doesn't want to be. Southtown is Southtown. It's Puro San Antonio. Embrace it as San Antonio, and all will be well. Try to make it into some poor imitation of something else, and you'll hate it.

OK, thanks for the tips (especially Montirob) and hope I didn't offend anyone. Just to be clear, I don't want to live in Austin--especially not like it is now--or I would be moving there instead of SA. My in-laws live in the burbs of San Antonio so we already know we like the city since we visit them frequently. I was just looking for something more artsy-fartsy and walkable than what I am used to seeing in the burbs. I think I've found a few good neighborhoods to check out thanks to these posts.

Southtown is the most artsty-fartsy. Home prices in Lavaca are quickly increasing, last year the average home price was about 275k and the first half of this year the average home price is about 325k.

I meant it was the closest to an Austin vibe as the poster below pointed out, it is by far the most "artsy" area in San Antonio.

Check out the La Cantera area. We have a townhouse in the Sonoma Verde and love the area surrounding. Just a sort distance to nice shopping spots (La Cantera shopping and the Rims). You will find nice spots to hang out there too. I have seen people biking to on the hill and along the road on the area. I am not sure about the business area though, since we do not live in SA yet but we were thinking maybe one day we will move to SA. My heart is growing on SA.

The vibe between Austin and Southtown are completely different to me. Maybe St. Mary's street here in San Antonio is a closer vibe to Austin...in my opinion.
