I am looking for any suggestions for a good local shop in San Antonio that does oil changes, scheduled maintenance, and the like. I cant stand the stealership, and forget national chains like jiffy lube and what not, they're incompetent at best and always trying to up sell more of their incompetence. Thank you.

Avoid Express Lube. We have one near the house and I had the wife use them. I can't get under her econobox and it's a pain to do. They were using Pennzoil for their normal oil changes which is a good product. But they have changed and the oil they now have is made by Warren, a recycler. I just about went bonkers when she came home with a bill for 50 bucks for a conventional used oil change. We won't be back. Might consider calling around at some of the ASE auto repair shops in your area. Not all shops do oil changes but some do. It's a good thing to have a master mechanic look around under the vehicle in my opinion.

For Oil changes and brakes I like "El Gato" on Potranco outside of 1604...you can bring your own oil/filter or use theirs.

You might want to consider Cambridge Automotive, located at 9823 Fredericksburg, across from USAA. The late owner, Steve Gherlein, used to host an automotive talk show on KTSA. Callers would ask him for advice on vehicle repairs.
