Hi all

After visiting family on several occasions in San Antonio, I have fallen in love with the ethnically diverse city and all its attractions. I am currently an adjunct community college instructor with a Specialist in Education and a Georgia teacher certification. I am seeking to continue employment in higher ed or as a public school teacher. I am also trained in the field of Instructional Technology with some experience in Instructional Design. So if teaching does not work out, I have a few areas to fall back on.

My family lives in the 78250 area and I have tried to concentrate my employment search around this area in order to minimize a lengthy commute.

I am hoping to get some feedback about public school teaching opportunities in this area. I have already checked out Texas Education Agency - Welcome to get information on a certification review. I plan to start the process within the next few weeks.

I also have explored many of the college website, however, I will need to work full-time and plan to only take adjunct as supplemental income ( if necessary).

Any advice would be very welcome. I am hoping to relocate after the current term ends this May - so I a shooting for a June move to SA.

Start with NISD, which is the district your family lives in. The city is broken into several districts so check all their websites. Unfortunately, you may have a commute just based on school needs. I would then look at Medina Valley ISD and Southwest ISD based on their distance to your home base. Then go to SAISD. I am not sure about vacancies or hiring process, though. I hope that helps a bit.

If public school teaching is what you are looking for then many vacancies don't show up until June or July. You have to do your application online, so do that well before summer.

You could also add NEISD to the list which, depending on the school, would be closer to 78250 than Medina Valley ISD or Southwest ISD. Also research the size of the school district - NISD and NEISD are very large, whereas Medina Valley and Southwest have but a single high school. Each type, of course, has its benefits.
