Wonder what SA gave away to attract these positions in the first place?

Well, that didn't last long. From the Express News article you linked to:
Quote:
Richard Perez, president of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, said that based on Wichita's experience, some may question how long aerospace jobs will last.
“I think they'll last as long as we do good work,” he said.

Oh, dear - that's what happened to one of our major bases in the realignment. It didn't look so hot.

Layoffs are just a normal part of life in aerospace.

Yep. it's pretty sad to consider a layoff as normalcy. Not the definition of a good job or career in my book. And I have two degrees in aerospace engineering. that's why I ran away from engineering and went into the military. It saddens me to think that I can't touch a civilian job for what they pay me in the military. This Country has eroded so much economically it's scary to think of the crap sandwich my child has in store for himself.

I'm surprised by your post. I spent 27 years as an Air Force officer (civil engineer) and my payday didn't come until I retired and got a civilian job. My pay in the military was never on par with my civilian counterparts, but I also wasn't doing it for a paycheck...my military career was a calling. My kids all have good educations and careers of their own. You should change your dim view of what your child has in store. We reap what we sow.

I guess Boeing is going to be sounding the alarm on the shortage of technical workers again.

It does seem strange that the majority of the people they kept were contractors and most of the were Layoffs BOEING directs.
So much for BOEING Pride? I heard they are scared of directs getting a UNION together. Anyone see the article in the Sunday paper about BOEING and the city (rent). Makes you wonder if there is more to this? BOEING trying to get some leverage?
