I've tried airport transportation service in the past and they gave me a VERY HARD time because I wasn't a Downtown tourist. When boarding these vans, Do they verify your stay at the hotel or do you just hop on and tell them which hotel to deliver them to?

How did they know the first time you did this that you were not staying at a hotel downtown as a tourist?

Even if you did sneak on successfully, I doubt the drivers will let it slide for long because they may eventually start to recognize you depending how often you use the service.

I've never done it before because I had no reason to go downtown. The only reason why I'd want to use it this time is to meet some friends at NIOSA on Tues after my plane lands.

I wondered that too but then I thought maybe I was missing something.

Oh ok. I had read into your post as you tried it before. Sorry I have no advice but worse they can do is say no.

Apparently he's not familiar with the term "theft of service" (Texas Penal Code §31.04, "intentionally or knowingly secures performance of the service by deception, threat, or false token") which is a Class B misdemeanor if the value of the service stolen is $20 or more but less than $500.

Considering the cost of a taxi from the airport to downtown is most likely over twenty bucks, then that's the likely charge he could be facing if caught and prosecuted.

Yeah, totally worth the risk...

Upon first inspection, the charge is $19, which is slightly cheaper than a taxi. I don't trust or like taxi drivers, so don't care to use them. I'll try lyft and uber as well. I don't mind paying, just don't want to be ripped off.

Taxi drivers are licensed and monitors. If you have an irrational fear of them I can't change that, but we take taxis from the airport to downtown *all the time.*

To Southtown, it's about $26 (we usually pay $30 with the tip). Not sure if downtown will be much less, it'll be close to that.

We have never, ever had a problem, and I can't tell you how many times we've used taxis from the airport. A gazillion or something

Don't lie. Hire a taxi or a car.

btw - the fare has always been consistent. At most it varies by $1 (there's a fee from the airport added in), if they take a longer way around (because the direction gps gives is a little longer than we use), or if there's heavy traffic.

San Antonio Airport Shuttle FAQ

According to the link above, looks like it is less than $20 (unless you are doing round trip). Also nowhere does it state that you have to be booked at a hotel but I may be missing something. You have to purchase the tickets online or at the airport it seems.
