I have only eaten there once, and that was on my (hopefully) last trip to Cali to pick up our furniture.

I had their ribs (not big into froo froo expensive pizza) and they were decent, though not nearly as good as you get in SA.

But their root beer???

That is some darn fine stuff that they do brew it in house.

They serve it up to you in a nice frosty mug.

Had several of those before we toddled home.

I am not a beer drinker, but definitely high marks for the root variety.

mmmmh root beer.. now that's something I might consider a drive for, especially if it's really good stuff and that description sounds like something I'm after. I also want to go to San Marcos to get a bottle or two of that Three Dudes (http://www.threedudeswinery.com/) wine they did a piece on in the EN a few weeks ago. I don't like wine at all, but I love those bottles and have a growing collection. Matter of fact, I picked up a bottle of Cîroc vodka with two martini glasses today. I'll drink that vodka though.. My best so far is a limited edition Bong Vodka and that will never be opened. Even comes with a holographic seal..

ok, the op did mention beer, so I'm not totally OT here...

BJ's has great deep dish pizza. Not sure if it's authentic Chicago -style as I've never been to Chicago.

It's like they're following me around. They opened up shortly before we moved into our first home in CA and now they'll be following me to Stone Oak.

Well, maybe Trader Joe's will follow you, too.

We have not eaten at Sonic since we got into town, except for maybe a blast or a shake...but not lunch/dinner.

I can easily blow a sit down meal's worth of money at one meal there, so we just choose to go elsewhere.

After having some REAL chili at every other place in town, I get my chili dog on elsewhere.

Personally, I would love to see an Edwardos. Deep dish pizza pie w/cheese and spinach. Don't really care about the beer. That's all we need is more alcohol around here!
I'd rather get a decent mom and pop pizza joint (Chicago style) where the folks are from Chicago and actually know what they're doing than another national chain. Kind of like what Jerry's has done for Chicago style dogs.

I still order my Chicago style pizza from Lou Malnatti's and have it shipped, since I don't care for the place on Blanco, and the other Chicago style place in town is in Stone Oak and I'm not about to drive through there just for pizza.

And speaking of national chains, what a shame that our Riverwalk has turned into chain hell. I was down there with my family yesterday and it's getting harder and harder to find someplace that's unique to San Antonio.

I can hope. Funny thing is they opened a location near my 1st home 2 weeks after we moved out.

We are renting in Long Beach right now and TJ's is definitely a weekly fixture. It would great if they moved to Stone Oak (or anywhere in SA).

We have a few BJ's where I am from. The pizza is ok. The beer is better. I usually got a NY strip steak, which oddly was one of the best in town and reasonable. Besides what I have mentioned above BJ's has a varied menu. They have a decent training system and the servers are pretty consistent. If they bring what I remember to SA Id make the trip. BTW Sonic has my fav onion rings . Its still not enough to get me to stop in.
