We went down to First Friday last night. We'd already eaten (and thankfully so, b/c it's packed down there!), so we didn't go to any of the places down there. But would you recommend any of those places for us on a different night? We'd like to go back in daylight to look at the neat homes in the area.
I can't remember all the names on the street...Casbeer's, La Foccacia, a couple Tex-Mex places? What's good/bad down there?

Thanks!

La Foccacia is okay. Everything else is good to excellent, including El Mirador (on St. Mary's Street). Casbeer's is more casual, but quite good, as is China Latina (Great Sushi!).

Rosarios is a pretty good place. Their bar is what we go for. Nice atmosphere. Food is good as well.

Le Frite is really good. It's owned by Damien Watel who also owns Bistro Vatel and Ciao Lavanderia in Olmos Park.

Rosario's is good, but it is LOUD. Especially on First Friday, when it is jammed full of people and the noise bounces off the cement floors and metal walls.

OH YES! We noticed Le Frite. We LOVE Belgian food, beer, fries...so we definitely planned to go there. :P

Keep the suggestions coming! It's good to know where NOT to go so we don't waste our time or money.

Rosario's salsa is the best I've ever had...there's something truly addicting about it. Agreed about the noise, though--weekday lunchtimes are noisy as well. It's just very open and bustling. Fun place to eat, though.

La Foccaccia--I've only been at lunch and it was pretty good--except for when we checked out--you have to stand in line to pay your bill, which is unusual these days.

China Latina.......yum.

Yes. The noise level is the worst thing about their move to that space a few years ago - so much so that my wife and I avoid it on busy nights.

Triple ditto on the noise at Rosarios. It's not just loud music, it's just that the acoustics are horrible.....very hard to have a conversation over dinner. I agree that the salsa is awesome...roasted peppers! Super YUM!! And killer Margaritas that make your knees buckle!

I went to Rosario's yesterday for lunch before First Friday, (they were setting up for First Friday), with some co-workers. I had the Chipotle Chicken and loved it. Can't say anything about the noise because I wasn't there for all the noise, but I would go again for sure.
