Hello Everyone,

I am relocating to San Antonio for work. I was just wondering for my case, what would be the best area to live in? I was thinking South Town or Downtown? However, I might rent an apartment in those areas because I can't find any housing.

What area would be best to purchase a home? My budget would be around 200k.

Thanks for your help

Cheers!

Rent before you buy, especially being so young. With a rental budget around where you can buy a 200k house the downtown/southtown/king william/tobin hill/alta vista/monte vista/alamo heights etc, etc, etc area would be fine. However, do not discount the utsa or medical center areas as many younger people live in those areas as well.

All the areas ashbeigh suggested are good. I'd also second the suggestion to rent. Not just because you're young, but it's always wise to rent first when you come to a place before buying, as you may decide you prefer a very different area after living in it for awhile.

The only thing you could buy for that price in those areas is a project.

San Antonio 'least safe' place to live in Texas, NerdWallet says - San Antonio Express-News

The stats don't lie

The problem is, rich white people gobbled up cheap real estate in predominately bad neighborhoods, remodeled some homes, built some overpriced coffee shops and bars, sold and rented the homes to other white people and thought everything would be hunky dory. Well... Welcome to the realization you still live next to drug dealers, users and criminals. They didn't magically disappear.

As far as the metros are concerned, San Antonio did place higher (43) than Fort Worth (45), Dallas (46) and Houston (47), but that isn't saying much.
So accoriding to Nerdwallet a large city has more crime than a small one. That is quite the astute observation for website vistis.

No one in this thread is talking about "the south side" though.
