Say these two options are on a ballot, which would you vote for?

A Pro Football Team, with a brand new stadium

A brand new college, fully funded, with the possibility to match UT in prestige within 25 yrs.

Both would cost roughly a billion dollars.

College would be the way to go. Much more of the money would stay local.

It is also amazing to see how many of the local High Schools make it deep into the playoffs, yet Austin recruits so few of our athletes.

I should have read your post first, because I would have put football instead of college.

why on earth would people prefer football over a major college?

the football team will in no way compare with the advantages of a major university.

I misread your post, because the only thing I thought prestigious about UT was their football

Enrollment & Essentials : At a Glance : UT Facts

look at some of the stats.

no way could a sports team come close to employing so many people. prob not even if you had every ,major sport!

add in start ups that would pop up, its like night and day.

I see that you're in Tampa OP. FWIW, this is kind of a loaded question here, since we have a major university under construction and we'll be voting in May whether to extend a tax that will fund sports facilities around town.

Isn't UTSA large enough? And A&M may be building a university in South San Antonio.
