I think someone has posted (somewhere) the Ray Ellison/KB relationship... and the way I remember it, KB isn't just Ray Elllison Homes renamed. I wouldn't even look at an 'entry level' KB home, but they do have some very nice higher end developments, with a notable difference in build quality/finishes. Same goes for Ryland, Lennar, etc. etc.

FWIW, KB bought Rayco back in 1996 to get their hands on Raycos computer scheduling program. It has saved them millions. The downside, the houses move thru the schedule regardless if there are issues along the way. There are no quality checks as they assume since they are building the same house over and over, the subs should already know problem areas and adjust accordingly. KB in Kalifornia at the time was building higher end homes under Bruce Karatz. Some of that product line has found its way to Texas. The construction is the same as the cheap houses, just the amenities are different. They do not compare with the likes of Ryland, and others in that price point home.
