Actually, according to City-Data.com, El Paso is 76.6% Hispanic. San Antonio is 58.7%.

Cheers! M2

Also, saying SA is like El Paso would be like someone asking what's the difference between Chicago and Detroit and being told the difference between Chicago and Detroit is the same as the difference between Chicago and New Orleans.

I agree with other posters that if you choose Houston, live inside the loop. It is the cultural center of Houston, if the city can be said to have a cultural center, so you'll be close to everything worth being close to. The Woodlands would be a PITA commute. With a budget of $900,000, you could have your pick among any number of nice neighborhoods where you could get a house with a yard. Your having to deal with traffic and congestion would be greatly minimized, especially after learning the shortcuts and alternate routes.

Houston is both salad bowl and melting pot. It depends on where you are.

They both have culture. San Antonio has a major symphony. Has world class cultural venues. The only downtown with five restored atmospheric Vaudeville theatres.
Really? I haven't heard that before.

And Houston is one of five US cities to showcase all of the major performing arts (having them all in the city). The only one in Texas actually.

Trust me Austin is nothing compared to Houston traffic wise. though bad for it's size Austin still needs millions more population to compare to Houston's traffic.

I understand where your coming from but he does have a point it is still a little segregated though not in a bad.
North-White
West- Hispanic
SW-Hispanic
SE-mixed
East-Black
by the way this is just my opinion not fact on what I've seen here and these are just the predominate races.

These are SO out dated.

I live on the northwest side and we have white, Hispanic, Asian, and a growing Indian population. Hispanics are all over the east side as blacks are all over the northeast side. The only place that seems to be all one race is Stone Oak down to bitters along 281. Even that is changing fast.

SA still isn't nearly as culturally mixed as Houston is. So if that is something the OP likes, then they may like Houston better.

And it looks like Houston is only one spot in front of DFW.
