My husband has been offered a promotion with his company and we are contemplating a move from Tulsa to San Antonio. We would love some advice, as neither of us have spent alot of time there. Here's a little about what we are looking for and a little about us:
*His office would be just south of 410 on I-10.
*Want to spend about $150K - $250K on a house
*Not a long commute for him (about 15 min max)
*We are in our early 30's, with the hopes of little ones soon, so somewhere that is safe and family oriented would be best.
*We do not speak Spanish, so a primarily Hispanic neighborhood might not suit us best
*Would love a nice Catholic church and Catholic school, as I teach at one now
*Don't mind the "cookie cutter" neighborhoods, but do want a decent sized yard...2 large dogs!

Any help would be much appreciated! Hope to come visit and house hunt soon!

Hi and congratulations! My husband and I currently live in San Antonio and I am a hometown Tulsa girl! What company is your husband working for? Not being nosy, but it will help all of us give you better information. San A is very family friendly and you would like it here. We live on the far west side and it is a desirable area for schools and families. Housing is very affordable here and you shouldn't have a hard time finding a good area. It's okay if you are not bi-lingual....this will not be a problem at all. Schools are being built FAST here to keep up with the growth of the city. Catholic schools are also easily found. My husband and I have to relocate to Houston soon (probably over the summer sometime) and hate to leave San A...we love it here and our kids are in super schools. Feel free to send a private message if you'd like more info.

There are a lot of Catholic Schools in the San Antonio Archdioceses 39 elementary and 8 high schools. So you shouldn't have a problem there.

I wouldn't worry about a primarily Hispanic neighborhood, many Hispanic's here don't speak much Spanish and are not recent arrivals, some who fought on the Texas side at the Alamo had names like Esparza, Abamillo, Fuentes, etc....

Anywhere just outside of 410 near I10 should meet your needs... I'm sure others will chime in with more specific neighborhoods....

Corey

I use to live in Tulsa in 1999 off Quaker street. Lived there for one year. I enjoyed living there.

San Antonio is a great city, has it's pros and cons but what city doesn't.

If you are looking for a nice established area near 410 and I-10, I would suggest Oak Hills in the Med Center. The homes are mostly custom built, but I'm sure you could possibly find something in the price range you mentioned. There are tons of Oak trees and Hills. I guess that is where it got it's name. There is also a country club, and the PGA has played tournaments there.

Check around St. Matthews Catholic church on Wurzbach....It is located in the Colonies North area...and that would be in your price range and ethnic preferance. Your best bet is to fine a real estate agent...that is their job....to find you a house that meets your requirements.
