I was born in Okinawa (Kadena AB) but moved to the states shortly after so I have no memories of the place. Flew through Yakota a few times to and from Korea, but like others, never got outside of the airport.

I was born on Okinawa in 1967. Lived there until I was 5 and then moved to California. I went back for 3 weeks in 1997. I still have family there. I really miss it.

BTW, I lived in Japan for 23 years. Actually, I'm a Japanese native currently living in S.A.
This was such a tragic event. It will haunt me my lifetime. It was so needless and so tragic. The Hattori's are such wonderful loving people. I am not suprised to hear that the word "freeze" was taught after that. So so sad.

Being a Native Japanese person, where is the best sushi in YOUR opnion in San Antonio?????

So as not to take over the thread, if anyone wants to know the story about Yoshi you can go here.... Yoshihiro Hattori - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I studied at Kansai Gaidai in Osaka for six months in 1995. I returned after I graduated from undergrad to teach English from 1996 to 1998. I lived in a very small town named "Kumihama" (eternally beautiful beaches!) which was in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. I'm hoping that I'll get to make a return trip some day.

I was at Misawa from 84-85 for only 9 months. My dad's (who was in the AF) mom was diagnosed as being terminally ill right after we got there and 9 months later we were back in the states. Then we moved to Yokota in 1988 and I graduated from Yokota High in 1990. Met my DH that summer. Got married the following summer in 91, and had my daughter there in 93.

Spent 3 years on Kadena AB 97-2000 and meet my wife (from Okinawa) there. Loved it there, had orders to go back 2 years ago but my back just keep getting worse and I was medically retired. Bummed my wife out for a little while but she really likes San Antonio...just misses her mom. We hope to visit next year...maybe a military hop out of Hawaii....plane tickets from SA to Okinawa are just insane.

I love Kyoto. A majority of the best temple gardens seem to be there.
