We are trying to figure out if we should keep our quads and 5th wheel when we move to San Antonio. Living in Oregon we of course have lots dunes to ride at, but we are not sure if there are any places in Texas to ride.

I have a few friends that ride. There are a few places outside the city that you can ride. It's just finiding the right place. I'm not too sure on the restrictions. I know when I was child, we lived on the Southside and my dad would take us riding the dirt bike all on the fields out there. Never had any trouble.

I used to ride/race dirt bikes 10+ years ago. There was a place called 700 acres on the southeast side of town where i used to see some quads ride. I believe most of this area has been developed though. Not sure if there are any trails remaining. It was my favorite riding spot. Lots of variety in the terrain, and miles of trails.

There was a motorcross track called Good Times in Natalia, TX where quads would also race. I don't know if that track still exists either, unfortunately.

Lotta help I am, huh?

I've heard about Kermit, Tx and the sandhills. Have you heard anything about that area?

No I haven't, sorry. I was going to post a link to the dirt bike club of San Antonio. I can't seem to find a working link though. If you can find this club, I'm sure they can help, or at least point you in the right direction for some quad riding info.

Yep, 700 Acres is a memory. I used to ride my mountain bike out there the first time we lived in San Antonio (2002-2005); but we've driven out there since moving back and every place is either developed or closed.

Unfortunately, much like it affects us Jeep owners, there aren't many areas around San Antonio for offroading. Keep in mind it is illegal to take any motorized vehicle in any waterway or drainage area within the city limits of San Antonio. You may hear suggestions for places such as Devil's Den, but check them out first and many times it will get you in trouble to ride there. Also, as something like 98% of all the land in Texas is privately owned, so about the only places you can ride are offroad parks.

Fortunately, there are groups such as the Texas Offroad Network where you can find info on legal places to ride. Do a little research and I am sure you'll find places to ride.

Cheers! M2

Cycle Ranch in Floresville used to be open to motocross and ATV's. I was looking at their website and it looks like it might be only motocross now but you could always contact them. They used to have the motocross track and then trails through the woods for ATV's.
