Hopefully someone in San Antonio or Texas knows about this but i'm going to be traveling next month from Albuquerque to Jacksonviile Florida so when i leave ABQ at around 5.00 A.M.i am plan on being in San Antonio that evening after an long drive from Albuquerque. Since gasoline has skyrocked i plan to sleep at the Rest Areas along the Interstate to save money instead of sleeping in a Motel. Are there any Rest Areas approximately 50 miles before or after San Antonio on Interstate-10 so i can stay and sleep the nite that anyone knows of so i can plan my trip.

Thanks so much !!!

Texas Safety Rest Area Program - Texas Map

The one near Seguin is your best bet, recently completely rebuilt. Above link contains a map of all Rest Area locations statewide.

Great Link Smitty .....and thanks so much as it shows all the Rest Areas along I-10 thru Texas. The Seguin Rest Area does look very nice and thanks again as that's where i'll be getting some zzzz's that first days drive.

I've done the San Antonio to Jax run several times, it is no one-day trip! From my house to mom's is 1100 miles, and even if you were able to manage a constant 70 MPH along the whole route, it is still over 15 hours not including stops for gas, traffic, construction, etc.

You should really plan for at least a two-day trip to cover the 1700 miles from Albuquerque to Jacksonville. Even that is pushing it...

Cheers! M2

I'm gonna take 2 1/2 days to drive it as it's around 2,000 miles to drive from Albuquerque to Jacksonville as that would just kill me to attempt that....lol...

Here's my road plan.

Day 1 leave Albuquerque at 5 a.m. and head east to U.S. 285 and take it from I-40 all the way to Ft.Stockton. Then head east on I-10 to San Antonio and rest the nite somewhere east of San Antonio (probably seguin).

Day 2 Continue on I-10 east all the way until i get some where past Pensacola and before Tallahasse in Florida and rest up in a Rest Area for the nite.

Day 3 finish heading east on I-10 until i hit Jacksonville Florida probably by noon and go and kiss the sand on the beaches at the ocean at Jax Beach as it's been 13 years since i've been back there....

Thanks for looking out for me Majormadmax as i do appreciate it....

Glad to hear you have a plan, and give those beaches a kiss for me as well! I left in 1981 when I joined the USAF, and have been back for brief periods a few times since but have never lived there again. There is a Jacksonville forum on City-Data and I occassionally stroll over there; but it may be helpful to you in getting "re-acquainted" with the "Bold New City of the South!"

Oh, and be prepared for a shock if you haven't been to Jax recently. The place has grown quite considerably over the years, much like San Antonio! Lots of new roads and development...I almost have a hard to recognizing a lot of places when I go back to visit!

Cheers! M2

Yeap i do visit there alot on the Jax forums but i just mostly read them. I do know Jax has changed quite a bit since 1995 when i was last there.
Funny in that you left Jax in 1981 to join the Air Force and i first moved there in 1981 when i was stationed at Mayport in the Navy there.

Take Care !!
