Shouldn't matter what you're "used to"...do you actually like commuting the 45 minutes (1 and 1/2 hours daily)? I sure as heck wouldn't. Why settle when you might be able to do better?

I live in the Boerne area just east of Esperanza, and I'm actually in the process of building a garden home in Esperanza for my mother. It's a very nice area and Boerne is known as one of the best school districts in the region. Esperanza will have a new elementary school for the 2019-2020 school year. The neighborhood is full of young families for the most part. The neighborhood will ultimately have nearly 2500 homes, so know it will be much larger than it is today.

Traffic is a problem as the town of Boerne and I-10 corridor is booming. I-10 is currently being expanded and Highway 46 at the front entrance to Esperanza will start undergoing an expansion likely late this year to better carry traffic back into Boerne and ultimately to I-10.

I travel often and regularly make the drive to the airport at peak and non-peak times. For non-peak, I can get there in around 30-35 minutes. At rush hour, I'd say it can be 40-45 minutes some days and an hour or so occasionally. When the I-10 construction is complete in the next 18 months, I expect it will shave 5-10 minutes off the extended rush hour times (it's a massive bottleneck for the commute home right now) at least until there's enough population growth that the interstate needs to be expanded again!

Ventana is a brand new community. I have looked in that community myself since I eventually want to move a bit more north. You can easily take Blanco road all the way down to 46 from there but if we do get rain Blanco can flood at times in a few areas so then you have to take 46 to 281. Johnson Ranch is a very large community with smaller communities in it. Johnson Ranch would be the closest for your commute and yes the traffic on 281 is terrible during peak commute times but I don't know your work hours so take that into consideration.

Johnson Ranch is also closer to any restaurants and shopping vs. Ventana.

Both communities are new homes.
