Finally kayaked for the first time and it was totally different than I thought it would be! It was awesome...felt like I was Lewis and Clark on the Yellowstone River.

We did our "put in" at the Edge Falls Rd near Guadalupe Park and the scenery could not be prettier. I was amazed at how large the catfish below us were....I wanted to just reach out and grab them, but if they were salmon I probably would have.

I dont' think we saw anyone out on the water for over 4 hours (about 4 miles) of paddling. It was nice looking at all the wildlife along the way. Lots of turtles and birds.

Halfway during our trip, we pulled over to the side of the river and ate a light snack. At this point, the ground started to shake like an earthquake. The rumbling got louder and louder until we noticed several "wild" horses (private ranch) running across an adjoining field, playfully picking on each other. Beautiful horses too, many were spotted in black and white.

One of our guys started taking in water for some reason and his kayak began bubbling in the center area. Luckily, it was not too much a problem because the water is mostly knee deep or so, but some parts of the river were over 19feet so we decided to swap his kayak with someone else's.

I think it took somewhere around 4 hours before we got to the end of our morning journey--and at this time we knew we were close beacuse we began to smell the mix of various cultural foods in the air--BBQ and fajitas. The innocent laughter of children began to get louder and as we turned the creek bend we saw lots of people swimming, cooking and camping out on the shoreline.

We stopped and had lunch--why is it in times like this that simple foods taste better than ever? An apple was sweeter than any candybar. Water never tasted more refreshing. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches could've competed with a prime rib.

The last leg of the journey was equally exciting, if not more adventurous. We had to navigate through various white water areas and often times kayaks would get stuck in between boulders and large rocks. An older lady kept flipping over for some reason and she eventually lost her shoes.

Anyone else ever go out kayaking? What are some of the good/secret areas?

That sounds like a great trip! It's been years--at least 25 --since I went rafting down the Rogue River, but I can still remember how my butt felt getting scraped over the rocks. It was so much fun, such a wild ride at times, and so calm and peaceful at others. I would love to do that again.

My husband, brother, and dad are all kayakers! That said, with all the rain we got last summer, my husband kayaked Cibolo Creek last year. He put in at 281 and I picked him up 4-5 miles later (can't remember the exact location.) We think he's probably the only person to ever kayak the Cib- it's usually dry all year long!

I've kayaked the Truckee River up near Tahoe. Talk about beautiful! Crystal clear (and cold) water. Gorgeous.

I have a sit-on-top sitting in my garage for the last 4 years. When we lived in Cali, I would wheel it to the end of the street then go out on the ocean daily. You really get a great workout and see nature in a different way...

I've been kayaking for a number of years and have owned more than one kayak at times. Here google this

texaskayakfisherman and become a member, it's a great site and many of us are from San Antonio and know each other. If you think kayaking the rivers is great (which it is) take it 4 miles into the bay in Port Aransas or up in Galveston and it gets much much better.

My hubby and his friends have been canoeing all over Tx and Ark. for a number of years. About 8 years ago they stated kayaking with the "sit on tops". They've done one week to two week trips to the Pecos, Devils, Llano and others.

I got my kayak about 5 years ago. Mind you I'm one of the biggest klutz in the world. One of the first times we went, it was to just drop in at Rebbecca creek, on the Guadalupe to paddle upstream and play around and get the feel of it. As I was heading to the shore to get out by the bridge, a nice hippie guy offered his hand to help me out. I guess he could see the stress on my face, because if I didn't pull over at the right minute, I would have been swept under the bridge and probably would have been decapitated. So any way, he was helping me get on to the shore, and just as I made a step up, I felt a sudden sharp powerful hit to my chest right below my neck. I think I said $h*t or F#(k or some other un-lady like exclamation! The Hippie asked me if I was alright, and I'm sure I asked him WTF was that, and he said that the 19-ish or so kid, on the shore, with a killer pitch, had just skipped a rock, and it ricocheted off another rock and slammed into me at about 85mph.

Owwww wow wowieeeee!!! It hurt worse than a Somabitch!!!

Now here's the kicker......................it slammed right dead center into the James Avery cross I was wearing. Dented that puppy right in the middle, made a perfect red indentation on my chest of the cross, and prolly that cross saved my life.

Can I get a woo hoo, and Glory Hallelujah???

True story!!!

I have more "Fun Kayaking With Sweetie Pie" stories, that I'll save for later.
