A lot depends on where you live as to what I'd suggest. More importantly, given the brevity of the course, I'd highly recommend you join several web gun forums (NOT FB pages), where you can learn, ask questions and see some first-hand examples of what can happen.

There's two I'd recommend -

https://www.texasguntalk.com/

https://texaschlforum.com/

Both are long-running forums with a lot of good information and insight. You'll have a lot to absorb, so be ready!

After you get the CHL, your journey has just begun. I recommend some more serious training in SD and gun usage.

While a bit of a drive - www.krtraining.com is excellent.

https://www.sensibleselfdefense.com/ is also recommended. They are running a Massad Ayoob class in April. Not cheap but worth it.

I have no financial interest in these, just experience with them.

If you find someone else in town, make sure they aren't into commando posturing but are more realistic.

Also, join the TSRA https://tsra.com/, for Texans it is more important than the NRA for practical gun rights issues. Great folks.
