I know in the past when we've discussed USAA there've been questions regarding eligibility.

I am a member because of my late grandfather (retired USAF Lt. Col)... but I didn't know the exact details on membership.

Anyway they have recently expanded their eligibility requirements and sent me an email about it. I thought I'd share the info here:

If you have an honorable discharge, then yes. It wouldn't let me post this as a link for some reason:

Anyone who has served with an honorable discharge can be a USAA member. I hope you contact them about the services they can honor.

Please remember that USAA may not always be the cheapest but their goal is to be competitive and provide excellent customer service.

Are they doing this to remain profitable within the margins they consider ideal?

Will this decrease the quality of service they have been known for?

When they have expanded the eligibility requirements in the past, both of those were true/occurred...

I agree with what's been said about USAA's commitment to quality: In the 15 years I've had a member number, I've experienced nothing less than 110% in terms of customer service, information and product sold. I know I could save 10-15% more by going elsewhere for my insurance needs, but with USAA, I know I'm being well taken care of.

Yeah, this was an infomercial of sorts, but more of a love-fest for a great local employer. *thumbs up*
