Considering moving to Kerrville to take a good-paying job (~100K/year).
I’ll be living alone, and I’m in my 30s.
Recommended living areas?
I’ve been told to look at San Antonio or other areas outside Kerrville for more activities.
Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
I’ve read the older threads on this topic, and I’m wondering if things have changed there.
Looking to rent not buy my first year in the area.

If you are going to be working in Kerrville, I would just live there. San Antonio is only about an hour away which isn't long but still I wouldn't want to do the drive from SA to Kerrville every morning to work.

My brother in law is part of LEO community in Kerrville and he has told me that Kerrville is very conservative, safe and family orientated. Not much of a night life at all but again there is San Antonio only an hour away when you need that on weekends.

Good luck.

Single and in your 30s living in Kerrville? That sounds horrible. I might consider living in far northwest SA and driving to Kerrville. Have you been to Kerrville to see what it's really like?

I have not been to Kerrville, and I’ve only visited TX once.
I’m from GA, and I have no doubt I’d fit in, but it’s not feasible to travel there right now.
That’s why I’m here. Teach me, wise Texas people!

I’m not committed to living in Kerrville, and I would be working at a hospital in SA one day per week.
I’m just trying to decide if living in that area would be worth the commute.

Under 35 and single, I wouldn't live in Kerrville.

Over 35, single or married (and very conservative mindset)...I would love to live in Kerrville.

It is only horrible if you don't like being outdoors, doing outdoor stuff. In that case, then stay in San Antonio.

Kerrville isn't as backwards as some make it out to be though.

Find time to visit, even if just a day. I know it's hard right now. Committing to relocate to a place site unseen is hard, even when it's a larger city, but to commit to a small town in a state you've only been to once sounds even harder.

If you want nightlife, live in Boerne. You can drive to Kerrville or San Antonio easily.

If you are fine with a small town just live in Kerrville/Comfort.

I have lived in Kerrville for over 10 years. I absolutely love it. Kerrville doesn't have a lot of anything, outside of Fried Chicken joints. We have 1 tiny mall that isn't much. We have a great, big, new HEB Grocery store. HEB is like a New & Improved Publix, in your neck of the woods. HEB was actually founded in Kerrville and still has their HEB Foundation located here. We have The Cailloux Theater, which is very nice & has all sorts of musical & theater events. We have good selection of restaurants, but no ethnic restaurants, which I miss. My favorite single thing in Kerrville is our River Trail system which follows the Guadalupe River from one end of town to the other. When I walk the trail from Riverside Nature Center to G St(about an hour) in the early evening, I may see over a dozen deer, right in the middle of town. The main positive about Kerrville to me are the people. Very friendly & polite. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I had to adopt to most everyone greeting you as ”Sir”. I was always like, ”You can call my Dad Sir, but not me”. But then I noticed that a lot of times parents were with children they were obviously training to greet adults like this as a matter of polite behavior. Maybe half the population is from here. Many retire here from major cities in & outside of TX, like Houston, Dallas & San Antonio. It's no ”hickville”. The retirement community does drive up the cost of Real Estate, but not so much as the major cities on the East & West Coasts. The location off I-10 makes driving to SATX, particularly the La Cantera Shopping Centers, very convenient, under an hour drive. SATX is really missing nothing. Fredericksburg is a fun German town about 20 miles North of Kerrville. If I were to recommend an alternative, I would agree with those suggesting Boerne(pronounced ”Burnee”). You might want to check out Kerrville on Nextdoor.com. Welcome if you come to live in Kerrville.
