Me and my Family are thinking about doing a "vacation destination" for the Holidays and we're thinking about heading to San Antonio from the 23-26. I was wondering is San Antonio a good city to spend the Holidays in? Is the Riverwalk filled with Christmas lights and festivities for families? Is it worth going to San Antonio or just staying in Houston? We originally planned on going to New Orleans for Christmas but I opted out due to cost. San Antonio was the cheaper option plus it is tourist friendly so I'd thought it be a good option as well.

Is San Antonio worth spending time in during the holidays or should we just stay home in Houston?

I can’t say whether it will be better than Houston as I’ve never lived in Houston or visited during Christmas.

The river walk does have lots of lights, it is a popular thing to do to walk one night during the holiday season and see then. As far as festivities… I’m not sure.

If you do come down here, I recommend taking a night to check out the Christmas lights in windcrest.

The river walk can be fun during the holidays. The lights at Incarnate word and windcrest are also cool. However, I don’t know if they’re over the top enough for me to come out for it. However, I could see the appeal of a quick few day drive from Houston to get away for a few days. I’d say go for it. Here’s a quick article from the SA current with some good light options. https://www.sacurrent.com/sanantonio...271662/3021800

Yes, it's decorated nicely for Christmas.

But it's REALLY fun on New Year's eve on the Riverwalk. You can just park your car at your hotel, and have a lovely party on the Riverwalk with fireworks at midnight.

May I suggest dinner at La Margarita in El Mercado, complete with mariachis and street performers, and then a walk back to the Riverwalk to finish the evening.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk the day after Thanksgiving with room overlooking river a few times. That day the river is lighted for the first time in the year and there is a river walk boat parade. It's a pretty fun event for the family.

This year the parade will be Fri Nov 26, 2022. When you say 23-26 do you mean Nov or Dec?

It's "hot", which kinda takes away from the spirit of Christmas a little.

^^ Depends on whether a cold front moved thru or not. The day of the cold front is bitter cold and too windy, 2 days after the cold front its usually warm. Day 1 after the cold front is the sweet spot.

The weather is really a hit and miss. It will be cold one day, then warm the next. it will be rainy one moment, then sunny and dry the next hour. It will be humid, then dry air will follow the next day. Howver:

Sea World has a good program during the holidays.
The San Antonio Zoo has the massive Christmas lights display.
The Riverwalk has their Christmas lightings as well.
Downtown itself has lots of things going on, but you just need to travel their and see what catches your interest(s).
I know there are other things, but this is what comes to mind as I type.
