San Antonio reacts to Texas' 5.3 earthquake, downtown tremors.
The USGS reported a magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck near the Reeves and Culverson County Line in West Texas at 3:32 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16
It was the third strongest earthquake ever to strike Texas and the strongest since 1995.

Anyone in San Antonio feel the earthquake?

Didn't feel a thing. Maybe if I said I did, I would get an interview spot on the local news?

Can't say I felt it, but I heard an odd sound in my house. I was laying in bed relaxing, when it sounded like a board "popped" in my master bathroom. I didn't think much of it at the time, thinking maybe the house was settling or something. I didn't even pay attention to the time, but when I saw the news about the earthquake, and what time it happened, I then remembered the sound I heard, and think it was around that same time.

While Wednesday's earthquake was a novelty for many in San Antonio, the tremors of the 5.3 magnitude quake some 350 miles to the northwest put a final nail in the coffin of a historic downtown mid-rise building. With visible cracks covering parts of the outside masonry, the building was cleared and condemned.

A historic building on University Health's Robert B. Green campus was condemned and cleared after a 5.3 magnitude earthquake exacerbated existing issues.

The Robert B. Green historical building, named for former Bexar County Judge Robert B. Green, was designed by architect Atlee B. Ayres and opened in 1917. According to University Health, "It was lauded as 'one of the best and most modern institutions of its kind in the Southwest.'"

That building was on its last leg to begin with.

When they built the new midrise at the Robert B Green complex, they somehow, inexplicably, kept that old building around. They should have just demolished it then.

The building has a storied history, according to University Health, and was even added to the state registry of historic buildings in October 2020.

"The hospital was the first center of our long partnership with the U.S. military, providing examinations for service members, and was the site for training multiple generations of nurses and doctors. Many San Antonians received care there during the influenza pandemic of 1918, and many more were treated there during the 1940s and 1950s polio epidemic that terrified parents and shut down San Antonio schools."
