Does SA ever have severe weather: tornadoes, earthquakes, flash fludding, wildfires, etc.? (San Antonio: house, neighborhood)

I'm here in central IL. where we have occasional tornadoes. I drive on my job, so I'm tired of routing my way home around the tornadoes. It would be nice to find a location that doesn't ever get tornadoes, earthquakes, flash fludding, wildfires, and hurricanes. Could SA be the place?

Tornadoes, yes, but not often and I dont' recall many where there was damage in the city. It's usually the outlying rural areas that are affected. (correct me if I'm wrong??)

No earthquakes. Hurricanes are most likely to devastate the coast but can cause flooding here. Other flooding here too.... but the way I see it, my house was built in 1915 and is still standing fine along with all the others in the neighborhood so it can't be that bad.

The only problem the city really faces is flooding. I've heard on a few deaths caused by flooding over the past few years. That usually takes place in areas near rivers, and most deaths are caused when people drive their vehicles through rapid-moving water across the roads. Wildfires, tornadoes, and earthquakes all pose minimal threats to most of the metro.

We actually have earthquakes but they are typically so tiny, that you don't feel them.

Every 3 or 4 years we have a flood, but the water doesn't really stay it washes. Just use common sense (which isn't so common) and you'll be fine. If you can't see the road don't drive through the water.

Freeze, every 3 or 4 years we'll get a good freeze but most of SA doesn't go to work that day.

Tornadoes fierce_flawless has it right. I think there was one like last year cause a little bit of damage but nothing compared to the plains.

Hurricane force winds and alot of rain. When it rains it rains typically but then it's gone shortly there after.

We live in a great place, is why so many companies are coming this way. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad, because it encourages sprawl.

Checklist:

TORNADOES: YES
Yes, we get them. They are less common here, however, than places further north. We're just south of "Tornado Alley."

HURRICANES: YES
Yes, also a concern... though not that great. We would need a strong hurricane to slam the coast of Corpus Christi and head in our general direction before we get strong hurricane force winds. However, from hurricanes we do have the threat of severe flash flooding and tornadoes.

EARTHQUAKES: NO
There was a magnitude 2.7 quake about 40 miles SE of town earlier this year. However, we're located in one of the most sturdiests grounds in the entire US. No need to worry about the "big one" here.

FLOODING: YES
Yes, flooding is a huge problem here. We are in an area known as "Flash Flood Alley" and we're susceptible to storm systems stalling over our region dumping massive amounts of rain in a short period of time. When moving here, be sure to check if you're moving into a flood plain or not.

WILDFIRES: YES
They are a problem in and around the outskirts of the city during prolonged droughts. This year was worse than ever, and it wasn't all that disastrous for us.

Hope this doesn't scare you from San Antonio. Our weather is generally pretty calm, although at times it does get rather fun.

I think Heaven would be that place, because there is nowhere on earth where you can completely hide from mother nature or natural disasters.

Some places are just worse than others when it comes to different types of weather or disasters.

Haha, well I added the disclaimers.. or at least I hope I made them clear.

I guess when you're into weather, you truly think out EVERY possible scenario. I only said YES to the truly POSSIBLE ones.

Other than the flash flooding, Phoenix is that place. (and the flash flooding only occurs in dry river beds, usually)

Hotter than blue blazes, but no earthquakes, hurricanes or tornadoes. And RARELY flash flooding (heck, it's a desert! )

They get monsoons and large dust storms though. Been there through both of those. When it does rain..it floods QUICKLY....they have terrible drainage (not that they need it very often.)
