The only bad thing was they always seemed to blow in dry.

(should we take this to the OT)

But they were great lightning shows.

Yes, we get them. They are less common here, however, than places further north. We're just south of "Tornado Alley."

HURRICANES: YES
Yes, also a concern... though not that great. We would need a strong hurricane to slam the coast of Corpus Christi and head in our general direction before we get strong hurricane force winds. However, from hurricanes we do have the threat of severe flash flooding and tornadoes.

EARTHQUAKES: NO
There was a magnitude 2.7 quake about 40 miles SE of town earlier this year. However, we're located in one of the most sturdiests grounds in the entire US. No need to worry about the "big one" here.

FLOODING: YES
Yes, flooding is a huge problem here. We are in an area known as "Flash Flood Alley" and we're susceptible to storm systems stalling over our region dumping massive amounts of rain in a short period of time. When moving here, be sure to check if you're moving into a flood plain or not.

WILDFIRES: YES
They are a problem in and around the outskirts of the city during prolonged droughts. This year was worse than ever, and it wasn't all that disastrous for us.

Hope this doesn't scare you from San Antonio. Our weather is generally pretty calm, although at times it does get rather fun.

While Mr Anthony speaks truth above...just ask around and you will find it VERY difficult to find a native San Antonio resident that can recall any of these (besides being stupid and trying to drive thru a low water crossing during flash flooding and those areas are VERY well marked and you SEE the risk, just choose to ignore it vs turning around and taking another route)...so while the answer may be yes...very few folks have dealt with it or can even remember hearing of the last one. We get storms, but you have a much greater odd of being in SERIOUS weather related issues where you currently live from what I hear about that part of Indiana.

Now, if you want to discuss a drought...we might have something on ya!

Well, I remember the Great 100 year flood of 1998, and then the next Great 100 year flood 4 years later in 2002.

Both of them were frightening! But most employers (not mine at the time) let everyone just stay home till the waters receded.

I think the flooding is a huge problem here--seems like every time we get a huge amount of rain in just a matter of hours, we lose 2 or 3 people.

DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS PLAY IN OR NEAR THE DRAINAGE TUNNELS.

The San Antonio Flood of 1998

Flood 2002 - San Antonio/Hill Country Photo Gallery by RichO at pbase.com

In case anyone wants to see some pics from those 2 floods. I had never been through anything like that before, so I guess that's why I remember it every time someone brings up weather issues.

Hey I DID mention the flash flooding, and those not smart enough to wait/go around...but the rest of them are few and far between.

Again, those that got hurt almost ALWAYS made a poor choice and tried to get thru somewhere that the should not have when the water was flowing.

Now that parking lot last year on Medina...that was another story!

I LOVE taking pictures of signs...and this one is NOT in SA, but on I35N while driving around Corpus Christi last weekend.

And yes, I did pull over to the side of the highway to take this picture.
