My husband and I were looking at a map and saw that the proposed extension to 211 appears to go straight through Tamaron. This brought to mind several questions:

1) Does anyone know the status of this project? When is it scheduled to start?

2) If you live in Tamaron: were you told about this when you bought? How will this road affect you?

Yes, 211 is planned to run between Legend Heights and Legend Falls. The state already owns the strip of land where 211 will run between those two streets. Therefore, there won't be any ROW needed, but those houses that have a big wooded area behind them now will eventually have a road behind them.

Initially, 211 in that area will be built as a two-lane rural road, but eventual plans are to upgrade it to a divided highway and then a full freeway as needed. But that's several decades away.

TxDOT has about half of the money needed for construction. Additional funding that would've allowed construction to start next year recently was recinded due to federal funding cutbacks, so there's no telling when it will get done.

A few years ago, as the project was nearing startup, numerous mobile homes were moved out of Legend Heights in anticipation of Hwy 211 being built. Since then, as already stated, monies have been recinded so as I understand it, the project has been placed on hold. Ive lived in Tamaron for 12 years and this has been going back and forth for almost all of that time. Hopefully one of these days, the State will get their crap together and build the connecting road.

TxDOT and Bexar County entered into a pass-through funding agreement in late 2009 that will allow the county to build the road and then be reimbursed by the state over serveral years. Work is scheduled to start later this year.

Just got a clarification on this. The Potranco widening project is scheduled to start later this year. The county is still working on the environmental clearances for SH 211 and doesn't expect to start work until the latter half of next year (2013.)
