I'll be in SA next month and will have mostly a full day to explore before hanging out with a few friends later in the evening.

Those are the two things that jump out that I plan to do earlier in the day.
What do I need to know for those? Any suggestions?
Easy Parking?

Really looking for stuff to fill the day. Probably will start the day as early as 9-10 until 4 PM. Not going to want to be stuck inside in museums or anything but anything easy to get to to enjoy without spending a ton of $.

Depends on the weather, but for early / until noon, consider being outdoors in one of many excellent parks, depending on your tastes.

Mission Trail is quite nice, and very San Antonio.
Botanical gardens are unique.
Rent a bike or scooter. -very handy to see lots of sites fast.
There are some published architecture walking tours.

I prefer Alamo and Riverwalk after dark. Often on the late side of dark 10pm -2am.

I also visit the historic hotel lobbies and churches in the evening.
Check for any music events that suit your fancy. Sometimes there are free noon concerts / recitals.

Why do you prefer Riverwalk after dark? I can do that as I will be there Sunday night and Monday night.

Riverwalk (and the Alamo ) are very pretty when lit. But scroungy by daylight.
Most of the action and mariachi play after dark.
Darkness adds another dimension to the experience.
