Yes, its true...per our fed gov't website....

"With 10,175 telemarketers accounting for 1.8 percent of its total employment, Bexar County, Texas, which contains San Antonio, tops the list. The telemarketing employees earn an average of $653 per week, more than $100 above the national average for the industry."

Who would have thought that telemarketing is nationally centered in SA?
I wonder if the bilingual thing kicks it into the top...cause that would cover everything.....

I don't think they mean the annoying ones that call you at dinnertime trying to get you to buy aluminum siding for your house. I may be wrong, and without a link and not enough time or wherewithal to go searching, I'm thinking that it's due to all of the company call centers here--USAA, Capital Group, QVC, Washington Mutual, Chase, The Hartford, Aetna......all of these companies do some sort of marketing via the phone, but it's mostly inbound customer service calls. My son works for one of the above-mentioned places, and the kid makes great money and his bennies are better than mine.

Very believable. Cheap energy, land, construction, and labor. Not to mention the fact that most people in South Texas don't have much of a "accent" as other low-cost alternatives across the southern states.

I used to work at West and this was the very reason they said they had so many companies with telemarketers in San Antonio. However, people always could tell I was from Texas, even though the people from California who hired me said I didn't have an "accent."

West Telemarketing is in SA and probably accounts for such a large percentage of telemarketers in SA. West operates as a call center for companies and contracts with companies to represent them. Both selling and customer service. Some companies opened thier own centers in SA, so I guess it's a booming business for SA.
