Why do yall get so excited over new stores/restaurants?

Every other thread here goes along the lines of this... "YAY!! New HEB opening soon, let's go rush on the first day and get free stuff, are you all going?!! More food for us!! Let's all get stocked up on fatty foods!!"

People... we don't need anymore suburban store development. 1604 is draining. I remember how it used to be before all the new shopping centers and traffic.

& it seems like you all are cheering it on.

I guess my attitude has changed since I lived in Europe. They don't waste precious countryside like we do and they actively take a stand against unnecessary development.

I understand we need the stores in the growing areas but this is oversaturation!

Says you. I for one am thankful that there are new stores going out where I live--with gas at $4 a gallon I'm glad I don't have to drive as far as I used to. You could look at it that way rather than choosing your negative spin.

This is Texas - we've got land-a-plenty. Some would say "wasted countryside" is land that no one uses for anything productive.

and we've always got the greenbelts to keep us looker greener than say LA or Phoenix! I love new development! I hate having to fight the crazy traffic to drive across town just for one thing. i agree with Sapphire, get the stores closer to home! How about some more bill payment stations too! I hate when I wait till the last day to pay my time warner and have to drive across town just to do it!

What else do we need closer to home?

I can't remember the last time I paid a bill in person or via the mail. Online bill payment is invaluable.

Amen to that, saving on Stamps and gas, I pay everything online, via my bank pay, or the web pay. And as far as new businesses growing, it means more jobs, and more convenience, less waste of gas, ergo, less pollution, less traffic, less accidents, and new restaurants, means hopefully a new style or taste possibly of cooking/type of food.

TRUE DAT!!!! We JUST got back from Godai Sushi, and the whole time we were there, we were saying, "oh if only there was a sushi place as great as this, close to us!" Gas and time are precious commodities! When our favorite places are close by, it translates to quality of life.

Or maybe it's just me???? (Well, and everyone ELSE that's responded so far. LOL!)
