Well, the fire is definitely out. Now comes the clean-up (inside and outside homes, cars, etc.) and the lawsuits.

Here is one twist of the situation:

Hi,
I'm curious what the latest status is on Mount Helotes? We will be moving from DFW to SA in the coming months and we like the Helotes area, but not sure if all this is history and won't come flaring back.
Thanks

Paka,

Yes, it would be nice to be able to breath in good air instead of all that "stuff" that was in the air. Have they actually reduced the size of the hill? The pictures posted earlier showed a pretty big hill of mulch!

Mt Helotes is history...it took several months (started on Boxing Day and was out around mid-April); but it is no longer.

Interestingly enough, there is another mulch pile being formed further down 1560 (between Braun and Shaenfield), but I notice it is not getting very tall. I think someone learned their lesson...

If you want to recall the timeline of events, click here.

I remember going to work that morning, and seeing it from the top of the hill on Braun Road. I got some great video and it was spectacular, but once it burned down to the decomposing part of the pile, the stench was sickening. I still wonder if anyone ever got sued about it, there was a lot of finger-pointing going on...

Cheers! M2
