I would look in the San Antonio Express News and some of the other local papers that get distributed. You can also try carsoup.com or I've been meaning to look at beepbeep.com. Depends on how "cheap" you are looking for.

I would look up Craigslist, I've seen several decent cars for less than $1,500 that were running and in good condition. Always keep in mind that some things may be too good to be true.

I have had a lot of success with Austin's Craigslist. Even living here I go to the Austin one when buying a car.

I second that, and I can't believe I forgot to mention it. I bought my last 2 vehicles in Austin via Austin Craigslist. With SA craigslist I seemed to spend a lot of time playing phone tag with people who then flaked out, or being told to head on over only to arrive and find the car sold.

I bought our old Honda (that was rear ended) for $1300 (93 civic) and our foreign model minivan for $1600... both excellent vehicles, well maintained, etc. I've also bought furniture there. Every experience has been good, with people willing to hold the item until I made it up there, and respecting the fact that I was driving from SA to buy their stuff.

Yeah, I tried to buy a car on the SA Craigslist and experienced the stuff you said. I don't have patience for it. I remember calling about a car here and the guy was all I'm busy watching a game, let me call you back. And he said in this annoyed tone. Guess who didn't answer the phone when he called back?
