What are some of the non-dangerous neighborhoods with some newer houses (less than 20 years old) that's within 15-20 miles from downtown San Antonio, but yet not overly expensive?

That request is too general. There are dozens of neighborhoods that fit that criteria. Define "not overly expensive" with a range and indicate whether schools are important.

That's still quite a broad area. If you draw a circle from the center of downtown (the Courthouse) out 15-20 miles, you are basically covering the majority of Bexar County. Just for perspective...the intersection of Frederickburg Rd and Wurzbach is 9 miles from downtown. 9 miles NE would be Loop 410 and I-35...9 miles SE would be outside of Brooks City and SW would be South of Lackland.

There is not much inside Loop 410 that is newer construction even less than 20 years old. Real Estate tends to get a bit more expensive closer into town. You're going to find your newer growth between the two loops....Loop 410 and Loop 1604. Is work location important? Commute time? Anything to narrow the parameters a bit?

Hi there,
15-20 minutes from downtown... with less that 20 year old houses? That's a toughy because everything in the downtown area will typically be historic or older than 20 yearold homes. (Except for the Highrises, of course.) You know, Schertz or Selma are out 1604 and 35. I suggest driving in those areas to see if you like. They have less than twenty year old homes and I have always found it to be a quick drive to downtown. Schertz is really popular area.
As far as verifying the safety concerns of these areas you should go www.sapd.gov, and you can check out the safety of the neighborhood based on SAPD's info.

There are new developments in that price range inside 410 on the west side (151 area), that without traffic would be 15 minutes from downtown....however at rush hour that will typically take much longer.

The OP actually wrote 15-20 miles...from downtown in the suburbs.
