I am moving into the San Antonio area and will be working on Wiseman Blvd by Sea World. I was looking in the Fair Oaks Ranch area. How long of a commute would that be in normal commute hours? Are there any other suggestions that would be closer with good schools, specifically elementary? Thanks.

Will you be living here for some time? There are a couple decent neighborhoods off Wiseman: Stonegate Hill as well as a gated community off Westover Hills across from the Westover Hills church (can't think of the name of the community, I'm sorry). Both of these neighborhoods feed into Raba Elementary off Westover which is rated an exemplary school, one of the best in NISD for elementary.

What grades are your kids? If they're young, K-1 it might be worth looking/renting in the area and then moving from there as you look and see more? I don't think the middle/high schools are as good, but I've heard EXCELLENT reviews on the elementary school.

HTH a bit. Congrats on the new job!

For what it's worth I haven't seen anything in the Sea World area that compares to what I've seen in Fair Oaks Ranch in terms of the land or housing. Bigger and better on both counts IMO. The part of Fair Oaks Ranch I'm familiar with is near Grand Coteau.

What hours will you be working? I know the southbound 1604 @ 151 is a nightmare for a good chunk of the morning commute and I've made the drive back up 1604 in the evening and it is a nightmare as well. A former coworker made the evening commute from there to Lackland and it took him 65 minutes on average. He said it was an awful 65 minutes too and he's pretty laid back when it comes to driving.

We live in Fair Oaks and my husband commutes to Southwest Research Institute, located relatively close to Sea World. He takes I10 to 410 and exits on Culebra. His commute is about 45 minutes average. On a good day with no traffic (ha) it is as little as 40 minutes. On a bad day with a wreck it is over an hour.

We decided on Boerne area despite the commute due to the school district. I know parts of Northside ISD are great, but the capping issue was enough for me to avoid the district. We just moved to the area last June from Plano, Texas.

I-10 to 410 would be a much better commute, but that route would add a ton of miles to head back to Wiseman. It is the section of 1604 from Bandera to 151 that is the bottleneck and it's basically a parking lot thanks to idiotic traffic "engineers". I wouldn't be surprised if some of those engineers worked at SW Medical either. I'm talking the hairy ones then again that is kinda insulting to the primates.

BTW, they are doing a superstreet thing to that area, but who knows how many years that will take.

If you could make 1604 to 151 in the earlier hours before average commute time you probably wouldn't have a terrible commute at all in the a.m. It seems like 1604 doesn't start backing up in the a.m. until Shaenfield or so. P.M. is awful from about 4:00 on though on 1604 until Bandera. You might do okay on back roads but even those are busy in the p.m. hours. It might be worth 410-I10 in the p.m.?

I would be traveling in the peak hours. Not really any way to get around that. From the earlier posts it sounds like 45-50 minutes in the AM and possibly longer in the PM. Does that sound accurate?

that's about right tonto --- we close to Fair Oaks and I drive the kiddos to school in the am... from what I can tell if you can get on the road about 655am or 7am the traffic on I-10 around the boerne stage road area is okay --- But just 10min later at 710am and the traffic hits... maybe if you start your commute about 15mins early you may miss some of the worst traffic...

congrats on the move and welcome to the area...
