Default KMAC/KISS Radio In The '70's

Does anyone remember KMAC & KISS radio in the '70's when Joe Anthony and Lou Roney deejayed? Some of my most memorable music from artists were Captain Beyond, Kaptain Kopter & His Twirly Birds. Lou Roney would also play Song of The Wind by Santana right around sunset or so.

Not a reply! I'm doing some research about San Antonio. Anyone know what Elementary school was in the mission area in 1940. or where did they go to school from that area?

I also lived in the Stinson Field barracks, 1955-56, at the corner of what is now 93rd St. We lived on the top floor which had had a wall taken down between two apartments and was made into one large apartment. I remember walking many times to a nearby small grocery store. I attended Oak Crest Jr. High where I met my first love. Would so love to see pictures and read more stories about the barracks and 1950's-related San Antonio.

The barracks are all gone. When Memorial Stadium was built in the middle of the old housing project. I used to ride around them on my motorcycle in the 60's. Bet I know what grocery store you mean . I can't think of the name right now!! I'd like to know more about the old Stinson Housing. Never sure of exactly what it was called. There was also Brooks Parkway off South Flores and Military Drive. One street in that circled around and back out. Single story barracks housing in there!!

Default Stinson Field Barracks - 1950's

The little grocery store (more like a modern day convenience store) was actually on the Stinson Field property just south of where I lived. Do you remember what else was there... gas station or anything else? My family's barrack was right on the corner of 93rd St. and (I think?) Roosevelt? It was just about where Memorial Stadium is now (or slightly northwest of there). A tree I used to sit under and read and play is still there. I remember during summer, the city library bookmobile would come by occasionally... always loved that. My best friend in that time was a girl named Mari Robinson from the Stinson Field area. She had a little brother named Ronnie and I seem to recall she attended a Catholic School.

I have no idea why I had to travel so far away by bus to go to school, but did anyone out there also attend Oak Crest Jr. High or East Central during the 50's? My father worked for the FAA at the time as a Maintenance Mechanic and we were always having to move to be closer to his work... lost so many friends that way.

The only buildings left on that section of 93rd and Roosevelt is a helicopter hangar and a large hangar which is now part of the Texas Air Museum. Everything else has been torn down. As far as the rest of the airport, I believe only "Hangar 9" is left...everything else is pretty new. They just built a brand new terminal for the airport. It's real nice.
