Haven't been to a derm here, so I don't have any suggestions, but - are you looking for the dermatologist to be Afro-American or are you looking for someone who specializes in Afro-American skin? Just in case others here have suggestions, you might want to clarify...

I doubt he/she cares about the color of the doctor.
Shouldn't all dermatologists know how to treat all different skin colors?

Dopo....that's a legitimate question that you've asked. The answer should be a general "yes"....but there are definitely differences. Some diseases and problems of the skin effect people of different skin colors. I personally would want to find someone who may have a lot of experience in dealing with them. The key is in the "experience".....not the training. Just MHO.

Yes - this is why I thought the OP might want to clarify. One of my closest friends (she is African American) in high school had problems with vitiligo (not sure if that is the right spelling) and keloids; she bounced around from derm to derm for many years trying to find one who had experience in dealing with those issues and could truly help her. There are skin care brands which focus just on darker skin (like Ambi at drugstores and Rx for Brown Skin at Sephora).
