Hello Everyone!

I have read so much and have to say that this site is amazing and offers so much great inside information! I have searched this site thoroughly and have not found any information on this specific question...so thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide!

My husband and I are being relocated to San Antonio from Corpus Christi, TX this summer for his job. We are in our late 20's and have a boy and girl ages 3 & 5. We are looking for a neighborhood with good elementary schools, neighborhood amenities, 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2,000+ sq ft with a price range of approximately $155K. We'd love to be in an area with other families with similar aged children.

We've had a tough time finding homes in our price range in popular neighborhoods. My husband will be working in the 410/281 area and we are hoping for no more than 30 minute commute (less if possible!).

I found a house in a "gated community" in Finesilver subdivision that backs up to Braun Rd, inside 1604 and west of Bandera Rd. I have searched on this site and scoured the internet and I cannot find one good/bad thing about this subdivision/area. It is in the 78254 zip code.

If you have any comments about this area or another area that might suit our needs, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks again, I'm looking forward to being a part of this awesome city!

The good:
O'Connor HS is an excellent school.
The neighborhood is a good neighborhood.
New shopping centers, banks, movie theater under 5 minutes away.
Surrounding neighborhoods are good.

The bad:
Commute to 281/410 will be very long. I used to live in the area, and traffic going east in the morning was very bad.

The OP should be able to find something close to what they want with a shorter commute and with good schools. Maybe in the Churchill area? Unless they are dead set on Finesilver I wouldn't stop looking.

San Antonio is such a family friendly city that finding a neighborhood that includes families with kids and the same ideals will not be hard at all.

I agree with Montirob, the commute would be atrocious since both those areas are heavily congested. I would check out the 78216/78213 zip codes.

I agree, it might be better to focus on the Blanco/NW Military/Bitters areas. Or, the areas around McAllister Park.

But I have heard that Finesilver is a nice neighborhood.

Thank you all so much for your input! We also found a nice house in the Shavano Woods area near I10W in between 1604 and 410... however the house we can afford is significantly smaller in that area...but I'm sure the commute would be half as bad!

Keep the suggestions coming I can't tell you how much I appreciate the feedback!

The Woods of Shavano/Shavano Park De Zavala area is amazing. We moved there when I as 5 (I'm 25 now). Locke hill is an awesome elementary school and UUMC has a great Mothers Day out program. Lots of families. It is a good choice.

Ashbeeigh! Thank you so much! You don't know how much it helps to have a strong affirmation about an area I hope we can take a trip this week and check out the differing neighborhoods so we can narrow it down.

San Antonio has so many great houses but it makes the decision that much more difficult... one up 281 past 1604 (I heard traffic was horrendous), one in NE side, a few in Helotes, Shavano Woods, etc! Decisions, decisions, I just hope and pray we find the right fit for our family.
