I just printed up the info you posted for the festival. But I am still a lil confuzzed... Do I take the streetcar to the Institute of Texan Culture to see the shows/events?

It's always fun. I used to volunteer but haven't since my sister moved away a couple years ago. They sent a thing out at work looking for volunteers so I might.

I had to laugh when they moved the Folklife Festival from August to June because August was too hot. Uh, hello? June ISN'T hot? Maybe we just aren't quite as tired of the heat yet!

I would say yes. The event is on the grounds of the ITC.

anyone know if any of the foods routinely contain peanut?

I want to go & take my daughter, but she is airborne allergic to peanuts. I can't tell from looking at the menu if anything does or not.

There is usually a peanut brittle booth, and I think the stand at the carnival sells shelled peanuts. As far as other booths using peanuts or frying in peanut oil, you might just have to ask as you go.

They usually give out maps of the grounds/venders at the gates, if that helps any

I'll be glad when the entertainment schedule comes out. Can't wait to go get tickets at HEB... hubby is still a bit skeptical, hoping he will come around soon. surely tickets won't sell out at Heb, will they..?

Four days and counting! BTW, the museum will be closed to the public this week as they prepare for the opening. If you have an urge to see George Strait's boots, you will just have to wait!

Here is the 2009 menu to get you hungry! Texas Folklife Festival 2009 - Our 38th Anniversary! (http://www.texancultures.com/tff/tff2009/menu.html - broken link)

I plan to have a roast corn, watermelon aquas frescas, bratwurst, kabob, but I intend to try at least a couple new things this year... any favorites?

I know a lot of people love Folklife because of the variety of foods, but seriously, the whole reason for this event (for me, anyway) is all the performances by groups representing all the cultures that make up Texas history, and especially love visiting the frontier section where you can see blacksmiths/gunsmiths and true craftspeople (not hacks from arts & crafts shows at the convention center) making incredible pieces right in front of you.

You can learn a year's worth of Texas history lessons in 2 days of Folklife Festival... it is without a doubt the best festival in Texas all year long. Even with the #$%@! heat.
