Not sure where else to post this, so if it needs moved, have at!

I'm a SAHM with an Early Childhood degree that is thinking of doing in-home childcare. I only want to care for one family's children and would be FANTASTIC for someone! However, Craigslist is a joke! I threw something on there yesterday and it got buried by 20 new posts in just hours.

Besides the fact that I can spell, I want more to stand out somewhere. Ideas on where to advertise? I'm NOT licensed with the state of TX. We just moved her from CO so all my credentials are there, so the state webpage isn't an option.

TIA!!

Well, looks like you're doing pretty well already! That seems like a pretty finely crafted "ad" to me.

Im looking for somebody to care for my newborn beginning August 1st. He will be 8 weeks old. I would only need care on Friday, Saturday & Sundays.
I was considering doing the same thing (at home child care) ...This is my first baby & the thought of putting him in daycare scares me. Im still not 100% sold on returning to work.

I don't understand the reasoning ? Why would a licensed, trained staffed daycare scare you? I 'm not trying to be sarcastic just trying to understand. Some of the new ones have cameras in the rooms where you an watch your baby during the day. When you hear some of the horror stories that go on with these babysitters it makes me cringe... You never know what is actually happening with your child because you're not there. Just curious...

I understand ocgirl's fears. Trained, licensed, staffed, certified, whatever, doesn't always matter. No one, NO ONE will care for your child the same way you will. If you're having doubts, stay home with your kid. I wish I had been smarter about it--I'm speaking from experience. Thank God, nothing bad ever happened to my kids, but I missed out on the routine, mundane little parts of their lives and I can never get that back. Stay home if you can and don't let the guilt kill you.

Sapphire, I can't rep ya-gotta spread the love some, but...here's a public rep for your reply! I'm a SAHM, and even though I'm tired and complaining about being stressed (due to other things in my life today), I still appreciate everyday that I can stay at home with little one. I've been able to experience so much with him. Thanks for sticking up for those of us who choose this for our family! We don't always get a good response from people when we tell them that staying at home is what we are choosing to do.

I agree good advice But I f you had no choice, I rather it be in a liscensed facility, than someone's home. You know the old saying... "You never know what goes on behind closed doors"

I'm with Sapphire on this one. No one can care for your kids the way you do. However, sometimes you HAVE to work. I was a single parent at one time and had no choice! I was lucky enough to teach in the public schools, so I got lots of holidays and summers off, but I cried every day I left my son for the first two weeks. Now I'm lucky enough to get to stay home with my kiddos.

When my son was in daycare, I did not go with licensed, state-repped places. I looked at everything, but I felt that my son would just be a 'number' there. I ended up going with a woman who cared only for her granddaughter and my son (within 3 months of each other in age). As he got older, I switched him to another in-home daycare with a few more kids, as I wanted him to have more playmates and do more things.

No matter where you go, you have to follow your gut. It'll tell you.

As for my initial question...where else could I try advertising?

Do people actually read the newspaper to look for childcare anymore? Are there other 'boards' out there for this type of thing?

I don't want to 'advertise' on here. In fact, I think there's policies against that type of thing. If someone wants my info, they can DM me, but really, just looking for ideas of where to post.

ditto. I'm not digging the "ads" here on the forum. Just my $0.02.
