We can get to Port Aransas in two and a half hours. We can get to Corpus in two.

FYI,
it's not the same getting to Corpus than getting to the beach
I believe it takes at least 1/2 hour to get to the beach (Padre Island) once you get to Corpus.

Corpus has a beach too, though. If you aren't super picky about having to be on the Gulf, the city beach is nice.

Yes. Which is why I said in my first post that it takes us 2.5 hours to get to Port A and 2 hours to get to Corpus.

I understand that you said that. I was responding to Dopo's post where he said:

I wanted the OP to know that there was indeed a (perfectly nice) beach in Corpus, and that you didn't have to drive the extra thirty minutes to Mustang Island if you didn't want to.

I got it, Eleanor. Sorry. I'm apparently not expressing myself well on the forum these days.

I agree with you - perfectly good beach in Corpus.

No biggy, it's easy to miss posts/context when there's only words on a screen.

I'll be heading that way Friday morning for a weekend on the beach in Port A. Here is a hint for a great place to have lunch on your way to the coast if you are looking for something. There is a BBQ place in Mathis called Smolik's. Awesome BBQ! It's a little out of the way because you have to get off of the freeway and venture into town but it's really not far off the highway. How Far could it be in Mathis? I found out about it by accident but that's another story. Anyway great BBQ and nice clean place with a great small town atmosphere. We make it a point to stop for lunch there every time we go now. I would stop on the way back too but they are not open on Sundays. Here's a link to a map:

Oh, the same family also has one in Cuero Texas. I think they are brothers. The family has been in the BBQ biz since the 1920's.
