My husband and I will be moving to San Antontio from Columbus, OH at the end of the month so I can work at Brooks City Base. We have been trying to figure out where to live and just can not get a clear view. I am very use to 30 minute commutes and have no problem with that. We have been looking at Castle Hills area so far, Google maps says 30 minute drive, but is that true? We are not picky, just want a one bedroom apartment that is safe and less than $600 a month. Please help!

Thank you for posting that, I have seen it in many previous posts and have looked through all of the links to get a better idea. I did not find it much help and that is why I posted my own question. I am just looking for some people that work at Brooks City Base and can suggest areas that they like living in or people that live in the Castle Hills area and has to drive south and what it is like. Thank you again for your help!

I used to work at BCB and live just immediately south of downtown. Max 15 minutes, often more like 10 to get to work.

From Castle Hills, 30 minutes should be doable, it's a straight shot down 281. Extra time may depend on how far you are from the highway and what route you need to take to get there. You'll hit the downtown traffic which I think is awful, but most seem to tolerate ok.

I commuted to Brooks from Westcreek for a few years, fairly easy drive. Westcreek is on the west side, outside of 1604, between Potranco and Military.

Westcreek Map

I would usually jump on Military to 151, then 151 to 90, 90 to 37. Time of day makes a big difference too.

My boss there drove from New Braunfels daily. Another guy came up from Pleasanton.

My preference would be to look for something in one of the outlying towns such as Pleasanton, Floresville, New Braunfels, Poteet, Lytle, etc., but there are a lot of nice communities within San Antonio too. Good Luck.
