I got a pair of Cole Haans at Dillards last year. Great shoe, actually--for about $175.00. Not bad for shoes that I wear once or twice a month.

I've had a few pairs of Cole Haans in my day. Good shoe. I like Allen Edmonds and even had a pair of Dexters that lasted me for quite a while.
Dexter used to make some quality shoes years ago...but they sell to Payless now and are cheap. I would guess that there has been a serious decline in quality that came along with that.

Dexter closed their last remaing U.S. factory in Maine in 2001. I had been buying Dexter shoes for years, and when I tried to buy another pair about seven years ago, I couldn't find them anywhere. That's when I started doing a little research on Dexter and learned that they had ceased manufacturing their products in the U.S. about a year earlier.

So Payless is selling Dexter now? No wonder I couldn't find their shoes!

Have you tried Penner's, Downtown on West Commerce. Quality Clothes, Shoes, etc along with Quality Customer Service. They are one of the few Downtown Stores with their own parking.

If you click on the "men's" link (once you select your region)..you are taken to Payless.

Wow, that sucks. I've never owned a pair of Dexters, but they were always nice-looking. My advice would be to either a) shop Dillard's, Nordstrom, or Neiman Marcus or b) hit NYC and find exactly what you're looking for.

My husband likes a pair he purchased at Jos. A Bank. Says the service is pretty good too.

However, the shoe did have a slight issue that needed to be fixed after just a month of wear, Jos. A Bank fixed them fast though and with a smile.

I think he spent in the range of $200.

He has also purchased a sport coat, pants and some shirts as well. Likes the complimentary custom tailoring.

edit - enjoy NYC btw

Too much football on today for any shopping to take place.

A quick review of upcoming itineraries reveals trips to NYC,SF,London and Reno before the end of this month. I'll pick a new pair up in one of those cities.

hmmm I'm guessing it's not Reno, but you could pick up a whole host of other things there, or just outside the city limits.

SAS is not known for style for fashion. They never have been. Their niche market are work shoes for people that are on their feet a lot...nurses, retail, restaurant staff...etc. They don't have work boots per se like Red Wing, more everyday wear. They are definitely not what you're looking for if you want mens dress shoes for meeting with high end clients.

I have to agree with Jos A Banks and the suggestions Smuboy made for SA.

Where is Googie too? Haven't seen him around in a long time. He knew the local men's fashion connections really well.
